EAST WENATCHEE — Sterling Intermediate School parents and students are invited to learn about course offerings, expectations and community resources at an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school gym.
The meeting follows summer transition classes Wednesday and Thursday for new-to-Sterling students.
The transition classes have been offered for the past five years, said Principal Chris Hall. The aim, Hall said, is to reduce anxiety for incoming students. The classes initially were offered for students exiting fourth grade who will be attending Sterling in the fall. The invitation now extends to all new students — including transfers and choice students.
“The class will tour the building, practice opening lockers, review the handbook and answer student questions,” Hall said.
The parent class is a new addition this year.
“The parent class is designed really to do the same thing — reduce anxiety for the parents — mainly by answering questions and giving them contact information,” he said.
The school’s all-student orientation is scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21. The first day of school is Aug. 28.
